Welsh local government plays the pivotal role in shaping and supporting communities. Councils want these communities to be cohesive, safe, fair and just, in which people are healthier and have a better quality of life. We have statutory responsibilities for many things that affect people’s lives, including, planning and transport, social services and social care, health improvement and promoting social justice and equality. Local government also provides a range of vital non-statutory services, such as leisure and culture and crucially the regeneration of local areas. In addressing these responsibilities, we work closely with communities and other stakeholders.
